Welcome to Henning's Home Pages

This website contains a number of items I found helpful as a Scouter.

Artists - Rockwell & Csatari: This section contains views of all Norman Rockwell and Joseph Csatari Scout paintings. We all know Norman Rockwell. Rockwell started working for Boys' Life in 1912. He did annual Boy Scout calendar painting between 1925 and 1976. In 1953, Joseph Csatari joined the BSA as an artist and became Art Director. In 1973, he started working closely with Norman Rockwell. He essentially became Rockwell's assistant until Rockwell retired in 1976. At that time Csatari was asked to continue in the Rockwell tradition. Click here to learn about these Scout Artists and their art.

Eagle Scout Ceremonies: This section contains materials to use in the planning of an Eagle Scout ceremony. Some of these items could be used in "moving up" ceremonies or at other Scout events. Click here to find many interesting elements that can be used in Eagle Scout Ceremonies.

Editorials: These editorials were written by Council Commissioner Darnall Daly and cover a wide variety of topics that I am sure are dear to the heart of many Scouters. Click here to read Darnall's timeless editorials.

Historical Perspecitives of Scouting: As a Boy Scout Historian, I have researched the history of a wide variety of things that have evolved over time and comprise fun facts in the story of Scouting. Click here to read some fun facts about many aspects of Scouting.

Merit Badges - 1911 to the Present: Read how the first 14 Merit Badges in the 1910 BSA Handbook (which the BSA fails to acknowledge today) evolved into 242 Merit Badges and resulted in the Merit Badges of today. The story is fascinating. Also interesting is the number of people who claim to have earned the most merit badges. Click here to read about the evolution of Merit Badges since 1910 from Aerodynamics to Zoology.

Projects for a Patrol: Here are plans to build a camp chair suitable to backpack, a Klondike derby sled, a patrol table that is easily transported, and the traditional patrol box designed by the BSA Engineering Service for the Jamboree Leader Guide. Click here for plans for 4 traditional patrol projects.

Randy Rowe - Eagle Scout: This is the remarkable story of Eagle Scout Randy Rowe. Although he was born with birth defects and using his hands and legs was very difficult, he went on to earn the rank of Eagle and become a remarkable wood carver, nature artist, Scoutmaster, and restored antique furniture. Though he was severely handicapped, he excelled at everything he did. Click here to read about this amazing Eagle Scout.

Song Sheets for Scouters: When George Pinkey became District Commissioner he missed the songs he sang when he was a Scout in the 50's. He was able to bring these songs back to Scouting to the delight of everyone that came to Roundtable and District events. Click here for many almost forgotten traditional songs of Scouting.

Statues by R. Tait McKenzie: Numerous councils have The Boy Scout statue and small replicas are often presented as treasured thank-yous to strong supporters of Scouting. This section tells the story of these statues and the sculptor, R. Tait McKenzie. Click here to learn about Tait McKenzie and his statues.

International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians: Rotarians that are still involved in Scouting or support Scouting have united in a fellowship to support Scouting and Girl Guides. I am their webmaster and gladly publish many examples of how Rotary Clubs support Scouting. Click here to go to the website of the IFSR.

Scouting Heritage Merit Badge Study Guide - a minibook (3.6 MB): I was fortunate to be able to research and publish a book on the History of Scouting in Hawk Mountain Council. Two chapters are ideal references for the Scouting Heritage Merit Badge, so I have made them available on line. Click here for my Scouting Heritage Merit Badge Study Guide.

Thank You for visiting my website. I hope you find something you like. Yours in Scouting, Steve Henning.
